Biologicals

The Animal Health Alliance (Australia) Ltd recognises the valuable role veterinary biologicals, such as vaccines, play in the livestock industry as well as with companion animals.

The Alliance monitors the regulatory process in place within the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) for registering and regulating these products. The Alliance also engages with the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) and Biosecurity Australia to ensure that there are open and transparent lines of communication which lead to a clear understanding of import regulations applying to biologicals and/or ingredients used for manufacture of such products.

The Alliance actively participates in the AQIS Biologicals Consultative Group meetings to facilitate these understandings.

In 2008, the Federal Government approved a review of the Australian quarantine and biosecurity structure.  The Alliance presented the following submission -
